Hey there, everyone. It’s Coach Curl here, and welcome to the Today’s Leader podcast, where we focus on building tomorrow’s best leaders today. In this episode, we’re diving into the fundamental element of building trust. This is the very first episode of our new stage, which is all about team dynamics. So, how do we create a high-performing team? Let’s begin by talking about trust.

Trust is more than just a feel-good concept; it’s the foundation of team dynamics and collaboration. Without trust, teams struggle with communication, productivity, and potentially innovation. It’s challenging to build a high-performing team without it. But how do you build trust within your team?

As a leader, this is a question you should reflect on. Let’s break it down into three key pillars: authenticity, consistency, and vulnerability.

Authenticity

Leaders who show up authentically create an environment where trust can thrive. People trust those who are genuine and transparent. Be open about your challenges and acknowledge your mistakes. Many leaders find it difficult to do this. Instead of just saying, ‘my door is always open,’ actively meet your team where they are and seek feedback. Listen without judgment.

Consistency

Trust is built over time and is centered around our behaviors. It isn’t built overnight. It’s earned through consistent behaviors and actions. Your team needs to know they can rely on you, whether it’s following through on your commitments or maintaining clear expectations. If you promise to support your team, prove it by being there, not just when they’re succeeding, but when they’re struggling. Small actions like checking in on progress and recognizing effort reinforce consistency and reliability.

Vulnerability

This is about leading with humanity. Some leaders believe showing vulnerability is a weakness, but it’s actually a strength. When you admit mistakes and ask for help, you encourage open conversations and build deeper trust with your team. Start meetings with wins and losses. Discuss what was learned during the week. This normalizes vulnerability and fosters growth.

Building trust takes intentional effort, but the payoff is immense. You’ll have a more engaged, productive, and resilient team. Authenticity, consistency, and vulnerability are three pillars that will help you create a culture where trust isn’t just a word or a concept; it’s a way of working.

So, how do you build trust within your team? Is it something that’s front of mind in your daily activities? If you found this valuable, please share it with another leader. Like, subscribe, and share a comment. Let’s keep building tomorrow’s best leaders today. Until next time, stay flexible and make an impact.
